How to create your talking portrait
The steps for uploading a portrait photo and producing videos in which your own face speaks, with guidance on choosing the photo and the voice.
What is a talking portrait?
A talking portrait is a digital presenter created from a single portrait photo that you upload, and it speaks on your behalf. You create it once, and the same face is used in presenter videos, personal intro videos and multi-recipient videos.
The face in a talking portrait is always your own. You can appear in different outfits and settings, and you write or approve every sentence spoken in the video.
Which photo works best?
The quality of the result depends largely on the photo you upload. A photo taken with a phone is enough, and no studio is needed.
- •Face the camera, with your face centered in the frame and in sharp focus.
- •Let the light fall on your face, with no window behind you.
- •Keep your face and eyes clearly visible: a hat, sunglasses or glare on glasses can affect the result.
- •Show your shoulders as well as your face, rather than a tight close-up.
- •Keep yourself as the only person in the frame.
You choose the voice
On the talking portrait screen, you listen to the Turkish studio voices and pick one. The choice matters: when voice and image do not match, viewers notice within the first second. For that reason the voice is never guessed for you; you decide.
The voice you choose is used across all products that feature your portrait, and you can change it at any time. A voice change only re-records the audio; the video image is not generated again.
No photo? Design a presenter
If you prefer not to show your own face, or you want a presenter made for your brand, choose “Design a presenter” on the My Portrait page. You select gender, age range, outfit and setting. The result is a presenter who does not belong to any real person, and it works in every product that uses a portrait, just like a portrait made from a photo. Your first portrait is free, and each account has a daily allowance for creating portraits.
Looks: the same face in different settings
You can use your uploaded photo as it is, or show yourself where your work happens: a modern office, a workshop, a store, a clinic, a garden or a plain studio. The outfit and setting change while the face stays the same.
There are three ways to do this. Single look: in the wizard step “Where would you like to appear?”, you choose a setting. It is generated the first time, saved to your portrait and reused in later videos without being generated again. Look pack: you choose one of eight ready-made themes and five looks are generated at once with the same face, using your credit balance. Extra looks from your own photos: you add photos taken in other outfits or settings to the same portrait. One portrait can hold up to 20 looks, and uploading your own photos does not use your credit balance.
Which products use it?
Your talking portrait has the leading role in three products: the presenter video for announcements and updates, the personal intro video for freelancers and independent professionals without a company brand, and the multi-recipient video that addresses each recipient by name. In all three, your portrait looks into the camera and speaks.
It is also available as an option in further products. In an ad film with your portrait, you appear on camera in up to 1, 3 or 5 scenes depending on the duration band, and in those scenes the narration continues as a voice-over. In an ad film, the same choice is made at the “Founder scene” step. In an explainer video, the “Show the presenter” option places your portrait in the corner to narrate while the illustrations appear behind it.
You make the choice for each project
The My Portrait page is where you manage your portraits, looks and default voice, and your choices are not tied to it. Each product’s wizard has its own steps: “Which portrait should present?”, “Where would you like to appear?” and the voice steps. In the same account, one video can appear in the office look and another in the workshop look.
Permission and responsibility
You can upload your own photo, or the photo of a person whose image you have the right to use, and you confirm this declaration during upload. If you delete your account, your talking portrait is also removed from the video service.
